Trump Slams Arnold Schwarzenegger Over Ratings

Apparently, the process of transitioning to the Presidency of the United States is leaving Donald Trump with plenty of time on his hands, as he got a chance to review the ratings of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s debut as the host of The Celebrity Apprentice on NBC.

Trump tweeted that he found the results unsatisfactory:

So we learned a couple of things there. First, that Donald J. Trump considers himself a “ratings machine,” which is a weird thing to hear the future President describe himself as. And it shows that he isn’t above attacking people who didn’t support him in public. Whereas most people leaving a television show to become President would probably be a bit more magnanimous ( I mean, I assume. No one has ever gone from reality show host to POTUS before) towards the person who is taking over the helm of his old show, Trump doesn’t seem to possess that kind of generosity of spirit.

But Arnold had a pretty good response to his statement, showing the kind of class that a politician should try to possess. He tweeted a video calling on Trump to be generous and understanding to his opponents and to turn his attention to doing good work for the American people instead of petty Twitter beefing. He read out a quote from Abraham Lincoln that he said had inspired him in his work as a governor:

We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.

It’s a good answer to Trump’s aggressive tweets and reminds us all, and hopefully reminds Trump, that politics shouldn’t divide us.
