Celebrities Who Promised To Leave The Country Regretting It
So Trump won, and while you may or may not be happy with that fact, you’ve probably had time to digest that a little bit and settle into the reality of what that is going to mean. And if you, like many Americans promised to emigrate if Trump won, don’t feel too bad if you haven’t packed a suitcase yet, because you aren’t alone. There are a number of celebrities who probably regret making that same promise now.
Trump’s win really came out of left field, seeing as most media outlets had the chance of him winning at between 2 and 37%. So the idea of promising to leave the country probably seemed like something you wouldn’t really need to fulfill.
Bryan Cranston, who played Walter White in Breaking Bad, promised to move to Canada if Trump won. Samuel L. Jackson pledged to move to South Africa.
Cher said she would be moving to Jupiter, which could be pretty hard to pull off.
Amy Schumer said that she would move to Spain if Trump won and after people on Twitter began asking her when she planned to make good on that promise, she said that anyone who thought she was serious was a misogynist, which just kind of seems like being a poor sport. The best thing to do is laugh it off and admit you weren’t really being serious.
Miley Cyrus and Keegan-Michael Key both said that they would be moving up north. Lena Dunham also pledged early in the campaign that she would as well, which prompted Trump to adopt her pledge as an unintentional bonus for his candidacy.
Dunham even said “I know a lot of people have been threatening to do this, but I really will. I know a lovely place in Vancouver and I can get my work done from there.”
So no only did she pledge to leave, but she called out people who threaten to do it and then don’t meaning that she’s going to look like a real poser if she stays.
